Cutouts

1. Stop Sign; 04-26-10; 10:15am; Rexburg, Idaho; f/9; 1/250; Canon EOS Digital Rebel XS; Cutout
2. Stop Sign; 04-26-10; 10:15am; Rexburg, Idaho; f/9; 1/250; Canon EOS Digital Rebel XS; Original

1.Lilly; 03-18-10; 2:43pm; Colorado Springs, Colorado; f/3.1; 10/6400; Olympus Imaging Corp.; Cutout
2. Lilly; 03-18-10; 2:43pm; Colorado Springs, Colorado; f/3.1; 10/6400; Olympus Imaging Corp.; Original

Using the quick selection tool in Adobe Photoshop, I selected the Lilly without the green leaves. I took just the lilly and put it into a new document, feathering around the edges of the flower. I lowered the hardness, so the edges would look softer. I didn't use a shadow because it looked better without it. I used black behind the stop sign instead of white because it would be hard to see the rest of the actually sign.

  2. The stop sign image could be used for a lot of different applications. Good job. The cutout looks really clean and professional. The lilies look really good too. They could be used easily in a variety of applications. You did a really clean cutout of the lilies. The hardest part of cutting is making it clean and you did a great job with it!

  3. I really love your cut outs! The lilly shot is so pretty. But I especially love the first shot of the stop sign. I would have never thought of cutting it there. It is a great idea and can send a powerful message just by putting that as the emphasis. I also like how you used the black to contrast with the outline of the stop sign. I think something could have been done like that with the lilly. But other than that, I love your photos! Great Job!

  4. I love your cutouts! The shot of the lily is awesome and the cutout is great. I would expect to find that on a stock photo website! You also did a good job with the stop sign and I liked how you chose a different color besides white for the background. The lines are clean and crisp. Good job!
